GF7 Satellite - Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City, January 2025 Gaofen-7 Satellite Imagery
Introduction to Xiangzhou District
Xiangzhou District is the central urban area of Zhuhai City, located on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary. It faces Hong Kong to the east, Macao to the south, and borders Zhongshan to the north, covering a total area of 555.29 square kilometers. As the political, economic and cultural center of Zhuhai, Xiangzhou District governs 9 subdistricts and 6 towns, with a permanent population of over 1.4 million. With an excellent geographical location and abundant natural resources, including islands, mountains and coastlines, it is an important hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a window for Zhuhai's opening-up.
GF7 Satellite
The Gaofen-7 (GF7) satellite is an important part of China's High-Resolution Earth Observation System. It was successfully launched on November 3, 2019 and operates in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 506 km. The satellite provides 0.65 m panchromatic imagery resolution and 2 m multispectral imagery resolution, with a horizontal positioning accuracy better than 5 m and an elevation accuracy better than 1 m. Its main payloads include a dual-line-array stereo camera, a multispectral camera and a laser altimeter, with a designed service life of 8 years. Gaofen-7 is mainly used for high-precision stereo mapping, land and natural resource surveys, urban and rural construction planning, agricultural monitoring, and disaster prevention and mitigation, providing important technical support for natural resource management and territorial spatial planning.
