Taiwan Satellite Imagery: 2024 GF7 Satellite Imagery of Keelung City
GF7 Satellite
GF7 (Gaofen-7) is an optical remote sensing satellite of China's High-Resolution Earth Observation System, designed to provide visible and near-infrared imagery with high spatial and temporal resolution. GF7 uses a miniaturized satellite platform carrying a high-performance optical camera with meter- or sub-meter-level imaging capability, suitable for urban monitoring, agricultural surveys, disaster emergency response and environmental monitoring. The satellite features flexible task scheduling and a short revisit cycle, rapidly covering key areas and supporting multi-temporal observation. Combined with ground processing and distribution systems, GF7 imagery supports geometric correction, orthorectification and thematic analysis, improving the usability and application value of remote sensing products. As an important member of the Gaofen series, GF7 strengthens China's sustained observation and emergency response data capability, providing key spatial information for scientific research and social management.

Introduction to Keelung City
Keelung City is located in northern Taiwan, China, surrounding Keelung Harbor as one of Taiwan's major port cities. The terrain is dominated by hills and mountains, with urban areas mostly distributed along the coast. The climate is subtropical oceanic, with abundant rainfall and frequent influence from the northeast monsoon. Keelung Harbor is a natural deep-water harbor and historically an important foreign trade and shipping hub; port economy, fisheries and maritime services form the local industrial base. The city combines a traditional fishing-harbor character with modern urban functions. Famous attractions include the night market, Heping Island, Badouzi and the surrounding coastal scenery, drawing sightseeing and food visitors. Connected by expressways and railways with Taipei and other places, urban development extends linearly due to terrain constraints. In recent years, Keelung has promoted harbor transformation along with tourism and cultural industries to boost the local economy.
Urban monitoring
Meter-level imagery tracks linear coastal urban growth constrained by hills and mountains.
Port & shipping
Supports harbor economy, fisheries and maritime services around the natural deep-water port.
Agriculture & environment
Multi-temporal observation for agricultural surveys, coastal scenery and environmental monitoring.
Disaster response
Short revisit cycle enables rapid coverage of key areas for emergency observation.
