🏙️ Tianjin, on the northeastern North China Plain and the Bohai coast, is the largest coastal open city in northern China and a core engine of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The Haihe River winds through European-style villas, the Five Avenues and the Italian district, while the Binhai New Area rises with modern ports, development zones and high-tech parks — a unique blend of old and new, East and West.

🕰️ In the early 2000s Tianjin stood on the eve of a great leap: Binhai development accelerated, outer districts expanded fast, and old-city renewal advanced together with new-town construction. Roads, bridges, ports and industrial parks changed day by day. The 2005 Tianjin historical satellite imagery is therefore of great documentary value, freezing the urban skeleton, Haihe scenery, Tanggu port, farmland villages and tidal flats of 20 years ago, providing first-hand evidence for sprawl monitoring, land-use change, transport review and ecological evolution.

📡 Captured by the 1m-resolution OrbView satellite, the dataset shows crisp building outlines, block textures, dock yards and field ditches, ideal for large-scale historical comparison, demolition tracing, legal evidence and thematic mapping. Orthorectified and color-balanced, it overlays seamlessly with current maps.

👉 The following images are the 2005 Tianjin historical satellite maps captured by the 1m-resolution OrbView satellite.

The OrbView series, built by OrbImage (now GeoEye, USA), was a world-leading commercial high-resolution optical constellation in the early 2000s. OrbView-3, launched in June 2003, delivered 1m panchromatic and 4m multispectral imagery from ~470 km altitude with short revisit and sharp, true-color imaging.

Serving urban planning, land survey, port monitoring and disaster assessment, it left rich archives over the Bohai Rim. 2005 fell in its golden in-orbit period; this Tianjin set features low cloud, fine angles and premium quality — a classic epoch for Tianjin change studies.
